The Massachusetts Alliance for Sober Housing is just one of the organizations which regulate sober houses in Massachusetts. Which sets the standards for all sober housing in the Commonwealth. In addition, Twelve Step’s houses are equipped with fire alarm and sprinkler systems which are tied directly into the Fire Department and have annual inspections by both the local Fire Department and the Board of Health. Our core mission is to give back and help assist detoxed individuals, previously struggling with drug and alcohol addiction live in a safe and sober environment. Sober house certification is an important factor to consider as you look for sober living. Massachusetts sober houses are certified by theMassachusetts Alliance for Sober Housing, or MASH. MassHousing grant funds will help rehabilitate 19 single-room occupancy units of affordable sober housing for women at Pax House in Worcester. The grants come from the Center for Community Recovery Innovations, Inc. , a nonprofit subsidiary corporation of MassHousing that helps nonprofits create or preserve affordable sober housing in Massachusetts for individuals in recovery. While traditional ATR services provide wraparound support to ATR participants, people experiencing housing instability need an additional layer of support to address both their housing and recovery needs. Our goal is to connect participants to safe, drug-free housing to stabilize them in their recovery and help them increase their capacity to support themselves once they complete the program. The rules at every sober living house may be different, but generally, there are common-sense limitations on things you can and can’t bring with you. Still, there are things you are expected to bring with you–and things that are not allowed in the facility. In 2007, I decided that my life had become unmanageable and that I didn’t want to continue living the way I had been. Everything about my life had become centered on the next drink and drug. I had designed my career to accommodate my addiction, and all of the things that were important to me fell short of booze on my priority list. After entering treatment, I began to hear about “Aftercare” and “Continuing Care”. These were terms for the work that I would continue to do in order to maintain my sobriety, after treatment ended.
